A good deal becomes a great deal when it can be stacked with other good deal and here is one for DC visitors. Combining the Diamond Status match program with DC bonus stay points will award you 5,000 extra Hyatt Gold Points.
Stay two nights at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill from 08/24 – 08/26. Total price will be $170 for two nights
You will get
- 2,000 points from the Diamond Status Challenge
- 2,000 from the DC bonus stay
- 1,000 from the hotel amenity when you decide to get points instead of the gift
- 850 points from hotel stay (5 points/$ spend) + 30% bonus as a diamond = 1,100 points
- Total = 6,100 Hyatt points = $120 (2 cent/point value)
Plus, you will get free breakfast (access to regency club), 4 PM check-out, and internet for the two days and Hyatt is very likely to upgrade you to a suite. $120 + all of the Diamond benefits are very close to $170 in spending.
My search shows that most weekends in August and September have very low rates on the eight participating hotels, I found $99 per night for Grand Hyatt Washington (08/10-08/12 and 08/03 – 08/05). So when you are in DC in Aug and Sep/2012, try to take advantage of these points.

As you remembered, I had a one night stay at the Hyatt 48 Lexington near Grand Central, New York City. The hotel is conveniently located 5 blocks from Grand Central and 3 blocks from 51st subway station.
I used 15,000 Hyatt points for the award night and I got a Diamond status trial via Hilton Gold match. The hotel is in opposite of Radisson Lexington Hotel and next door to Intercontinental New York, W hotel and a Marriot. Hyatt 48 Lex is a boutique hotel promising extraordinary service and gracious guest experiences. And they did deliver it. This is by far the most expensive hotel I ever stayed at. The hotel was $400 for a standard room and $600 for their corner suite (1 Hyatt point = 4 cent)
As you recall my post a few days ago about Hyatt Point on sale for one cent each on May 9th 2012
I was one of the lucky few who got the 24,000 Hyatt points for $234 (so essentially 1 cent per point) . I was planning the best way to use these precious points for hotel redemption. Most other bloggers said that hotel redemption gets higher value abroad than in America however in some big, expensive American cities, redemption rate is great as well. And I certainly want to get a better value than 1 cent per point.
From now through May 11th, use any Visa Signature card to sign up for temporary Hyatt Platinum status for free: https://www.visasignature.hyatt.com/. They will give you 90 days of free Hyatt Platinum
Once you’ve signed up for free Hyatt Platinum status make a screenshot and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org (Club Carlson customer service). Ask for a status match, they will give you their gold status which will be good for 1 year until May 2013.
With Gold status, you will earn 50% extra points from the money you spend at their mega promotion and 2,000 points for online booking which makes the 138,000 points go higher. And they will be very likely to give you upgrades when you stay at their properties.
